APPEARANCE AND BODY PERCEPTION
Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Jack is slightly above average in height at 5'11", but in terms of build, that's going to depend on his canonpoint! Luckily, there's an artist that drew their interpretation of those differences, which I think is excellent:

art by kashuan

So on the right we have The Pre-Sequel Jack, who has the typical "programmer's build." He's a pretty skinny and unimposing, but just based on what he does during TPS, we can at least guess that he's not out of shape. Still, he's a pretty average guy, and this is probably why we have the stark difference on the left.

Then on the left is Borderlands 2/Tales From the Borderlands Jack, who is a much bigger guy and more physically imposing. The quick assumption is that the weight that he's put on since TPS is partially from age, since Jack is middle-aged, it's actually likely much more intentional than that. This is actually only a difference of a few years, so personally, I think Jack very intentionally put on the weight and muscle to give himself a more imposing figure, and that's something he absolutely succeeded at. Jack is very broad-framed later in the series, and he would give the impression of being a very physically strong dude, but not in the obvious, showy, bodybuilder sort of way. He's physically imposing and intimidating. Also, more dad bod.

Though to note it, there is a bit of oddity here with timelines. We have an official timeline and one expanded on by a fan, and both have a pretty surprising timeline for te amount of time the series takes place over. The one thing we know for sure is that Borderlands 2 is five years after Borderlands 1, but this is also a bit odd, considering that would say that Hyperion established and razed Pandora in that short of a period of time, which I also think is a liiiitle off. Hopefully I'll never get into a situation where the number of years matter in rp, but just to make things a little more sensible, I'll tend to stretch this timeline out a little bit to closer to 7~10 years so that Hyperion taking over Pandora, uh. Makes more sense.

How old is he?
Not many characters in Borderlands have canon ages, Jack included, but I'd guess that he's solidly middle-aged. In Borderlands 2, he's in his early 40s, and in The Pre-Sequel, he's in his mid/late thirties. Because of aforementioned timeline oddities, I'll only be more specific with an actual number when I have to...

Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well, or does he slouch?
No matter the canonpoint, Jack carries himself with confidence above all else. His posture shifts frequently, since he's an animated guy that tends to speak using his entire body, but notable in all of them is going to be how well he carries himself. However, in Borderlands 2, there's an additional "edge" to a lot of his posture, since he's much more frequently intimidating in how he carries himself. For example, he's very likely to cross his arms when speaking to people, such as in his character art.

How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Jack is physically fit, and the extent of that depends on his canonpoint. For TPS, he's casually in shape in that he wouldn't struggle to do most physical tasks, but by Borderlands 2, he's much more fit and strong. Health isn't quite important to Jack so much as he's trying to mould himself into his ideal image of himself, so him putting forth the effort is really rather shallow.

Even so, his health is excellent with no known conditions or illnesses minus eyesight. Based on a picture from the artbook, he does wear glasses, though they're presumably just reading glasses. However, if we're talking a post-TPS canonpoint, Jack is likely blind in his left eye, just based on the appearance of his face under the mask. Presumably he's either used to compensating for the eye or otherwise has Hyperion tech in the mask to fix the problem, that said, since while glasses are one thing, Jack actively hides the appearance of that eye, considering it looks its normal color with the mask on.

How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
The thing about Jack is that he moves a lot. Jack is a very animated guy, which you can see briefly in this trailer, since it's more brief than pulling up a Tales clip. Jack is very energetic and rarely still, tending to speaking with his entire body rather than just, say, his hands. As such, his movements are very fluid since they're so frequent, but calling them graceful would be a stretch.

How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Considering the Handsome in Handsome Jack, Jack is... very debatable for how attractive he is! He's likely very handsome to people of a certain taste, but it's definitely not across the board attractive. He has very sharp, masculine features, and also a few very unique aspects in his face especially, from the heterochromia to the almost always everpresent mask. Still, to make a comparison, Jack is what I'd call "action hero handsome," and it's probably what he's "based" himself around too. He's definitely very striking, but whether you find it attractive or not is going to be very subjective.

Even so, if you couldn't tell by the name, Jack considers himself extremely attractive. He's a classic narcissit, and this question is answered pretty well by the fact that Jack has a body double who (obviously) looks just like him and... casually hits on him or comments how good he looks. Jack is very, very into himself.

Describe his complexion: dark, light, clear, scarred?
Jack's skin is a natural olive color. However, he does have the stark contrast of his mask, which is quite a bit paler than his natural skin color. In terms of complexion, it's hard to tell because of the mask and his clothing, but his complexion is fairly heavily scarred. His face has significant scarring, hence the mask, and his torso is also fairly heavily scarred as a combination of old scars from abuse in his childhood and newer ones from just being shot at and stabbed at on the regular.

Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Jack's hair is excellent, or at least, that's what he would tell you. Jack has brown hair that he keeps in a sort of purposefully touseled style. It's the sort of hairstyle that's slightly messy, but also takes a lot of work to get to that slightly messy style. He's very proud of his hair. In later canonpoints, he also has a prominent streak of grey on the left side of his hair.

What color are his eyes?
Jack has a natural heterochromia where his left eye is blue and his right eye is green. Post-TPS, the green eye is now a butted grey because of the damage to it from getting punched in the face with Vault energy. However, when Jack is wearing the mask, it apparently has some kind of tech to cover this up, since it'll still appear to be green.

Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
This is where it's definitely worth mentioning Jack's mask, since it's a crucial part of his appearance.

Since icons don't show the detail super well, you can see a larger picture here. The mask itself is presumably some kind of specialty Hyperion tech, since though it's a mask, it's extremely form-fitting and moves along with his face naturally. If not for the difference in color and the "bolts" keeping it in place, presumably you wouldn't be able to tell that it was a mask at all. But to those respects, the mask is several shades lighter than his natural skin tone, and three bolts keep the mask in place. Two are at his temples, and the third is over his chin in a manner that roughly resembles a goatee. Considering his soul patch in TPS, this was probably intentional.

It's also worth mentioning that Jack is very rarely without the mask. The only time we see him without it in the game is after you've killed him, and the IC AMA that Jack "did" on Reddit further elaborates that he really only takes it off when showering and sleeping.

What are his chief tension centers?
I always hate this question... But for the sake of answering it, Jack tends to hold tension in his hands most prominently.

What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
At first glance, Jack seems to be pretty well put together and stylish, if rather casual for a CEO. On second glance... It's pretty confusing, but also hilarious. However, as a fun little detail, his outfit later in the series builds off the earlier one.

On the left we have his outfit in The Pre-Sequel, which is rather reminiscent of a slick action hero's costume, and that's very likely intentional on Jack's part. For this outfit, Jack has his Hyperion sweater proudly on display, and over that he wears a fitted brown leather jacket with the Hyperion 'H' also proudly emblazoned on the back. He wears fitted jeans with a (Hyperion) yellow tuxedo stripe, and rather stylish boots over the jeans. The outfit is "accessorized" with his leg holster, a bulky watch, and usually his wrist-mounted shock pistols. He also wears leather glove on one hand with the index finger cut out, which is rather strange, but according to the AMA, it's for the ladies. Which I'm completely serious about, sadly.

On the right is the confusing of the two, which is the outfit he wears after TPS. Notably, the slightly untucked sweater is definitely the same one that Jack was wearing in the Pre-Sequel based on the fact that it has a patch in the same place. For a filthy rich guy like Jack, that's an interesting little detail, since it implies that the shirt was important enough to him to patch up instead of just getting a new one.

Over the t-shirt, Jack wears an extremely long button-up white shirt (which is what looks like coattails in his silhouette), a short brown vest, and a fitted black jacket. You've also got black skinny jeans and Space Vans, completing the "Cool" Dad outfit. This is also accessorized with his leg holster, the same bulky watch and belt that he wears in TPS, and the device on his chest, which is his "class mod" in game mechanics, but this device allows him brief periods of invisibility.

Other than his two canon outfits, Jack would wear other things, at least. Or at least, more or less. Jack is definitely prone to wearing Hyperion Yellow shirts very frequently, since he has a lot of company pride, but in general, his sense of style is engineer/programmer casual, also known as "Cool" Dad style. So vans, jeans, and t-shirts topped off with a stylish jacket if need be. Generally speaking, Jack tends to dress casually, but still sharply. Style and impressions are important to him, so even though his closet is a sea of Hyperion Yellow shirts, he takes effort to make them look good.

Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Yes and yes! Considering Jack's clothes all seem fairly fitted, it's definitely something he pays attention to, and with his overall casual style, it also seems like comfort is important. He gets the best of both worlds here.

Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Generally speaking, yes. It's not much of a difference since Jack is already pretty casual in how he dresses for work, but when he has free time, he'll generally just wear jeans and a t-shirt.

You knew it was coming: what kind of underwear does he wear, if any?
Considering he's partial to tight-fitting pants, I'm going to say probably briefs. They're also probably yellow. Brand loyalty.

SPEECH
What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Jack is voiced by Dameon Clarke, and luckily someone has compiled a lot of Jack's dialogue in Borderlands 2 here! His voice is somewhat higher in tone than you might imagine from appearances, but overall it's a fairly average voice for a man. The difference is just how Jack talks and expresses himself, which I'll get into in other questions.

How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
The best way to describe how Jack speaks is "animated." Jack is extremely expressive and also a quick talker. Jack tends to stammer and have false starts a lot when he's speaking, but these stutters aren't from a lack of confidence, but rather, it's more akin to his brain being ahead of how quickly he's able to physically speak. Jack tends to also talk loudly, since he's overall just rather boisterous, and to match that, there's also a lot of variation in his tone. He can switch from loud and boisterous to low and dangerously calm at the drop of a hat.

Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Jack does have a pretty distinct way of speaking, but I have no idea what to call his particular accent. It's very much the one that Dameon Clark has (since his natural speaking voice is very close to Jack's), but for this question, I'd recommend giving that voice clip a listen.

As for verbal tics, so many. Like I said, Jack speaks in a very distinct way, and part of that is his usage of words. Jack speaks very casually, often using slang, nicknames/pet names, and colorful phrases, and his frequency of using them pretty much acts like a tic. So for a quote as an example:
Hey kiddo, Jack here, president of Hyperion? Lemme- Lemme explain how things work here. Vault Hunter shows up, Vault Hunter looks for the new Vault, Vault Hunter gets killed. By me. Y'see- Y'seeing the problem here? You're still alive. So if you could just do me a favor and off yourself, that'd be great. Thanks, pumpkin.
So, as you can see, he has a pretty colorful way of speaking!

What language(s) does he speak and with how much fluency?
He speaks Space English! It might just be regular image, but we don't exactly know, so whatever. Language isn't really mentioned in Borderlands.

Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope, he sticks with the same thing all the time.

Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Jack is a very impromptu speaker, but whether he's good at it or not is mixed. Jack pretty much has no filter and will say whatever he's thinking at any given moment. He's a smart guy, so it can be very eloquent, witty, or otherwise just signs of being very good at impromptu speaking, but he doesn't quite have "finesse" with it. Because his talent here is from a lack of having a filter, he can tend to stutter over words because he tends to be thinking more quickly than he can speak. Still, overall, he's very good at impromptu speaking.

Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Jack is more average in this area, since though he's far from inarticulate, he's not exactly eloquent either. It's more like Jack speaks with confidence no matter what he's saying, even though sometimes what he tends to say is the equivalent of verbal diarrhea . He can be very eloquent, such as when he's in "CEO mode," but I do think this takes a more deliberate effort on his part and he probably even has to practice for. Considering his tendency to just say whatever he's thinking, actually being eloquent means taking time to slow down and think about his words, and that's not quite natural for him.

EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL
How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Jack is extremely intelligent, and this is one of the things about Jack that people are likely to find very surprising with his personality. With all of his over-the-top bravado, he comes off as being unintelligent, but that's not the case at all. He has a fairly even blend of book and street smarts, but even more surprising is the fact that he leans towards book smarts.

After all, Jack got his start as a fairly low-ranking, but brilliant programmer, and he mentions that he's been coding ever since he was a kid. As such, Jack is very skilled with mathematics and problem solving, and it seems like he also ended up with a fair amount of knowledge and skill in more "tangible" engineering based on other concepts he's mentioned. As such, surprising as it may be, Jack is actually an extremely talented engineer and programmer. He does make reference to how brilliant he is in his arrogant tirades, and yet doesn't mention these in particular, which leads me to think that he's a bit more humble about his skill in these areas.

However, as he's gotten older, Jack has picked up a fair amount of street smarts. Most of it has emerged in the last few years for him as he became the hero of Elpis and started to conquer Pandora. He can definitely take care of himself on Pandora, which is a hostile planet in pretty much every respect. However, even though he has the street smarts, he absolutely prefers to use his book smarts to tackle a problem.

Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Jack is excellent at thinking on his feet, and generally speaking, it's what he prefers. Making quick, even impulsive decisions is "better" for Jack because this is one department where he's definitely an engineer in mindset.

Given a lot of time to think about a problem, he's prone to twisting it into more than it is or simply overthinking it. When Jack makes calculated moves, they tend to be much more damaging and dangerous than those he makes in a snap decision, since giving himself the time to mull over a problem may not mean a better understanding, but it will mean that Jack will be much more thorough in how he counters it, and that's where Jack gets very dangerous very quickly.

Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
For the most part, Jack is a largely logical and practical thinker, often to the point of cruelty. This aspect is much harder to see in latter canonpoints, since after the events of TPS, Jack is much more chaotic, but there's definitely an underlying, if strange logic to his actions. However, for the purpose of explaining, we have a mission in TPS that demonstrates how Jack thinks perfectly.

The mission Let's Build a Robot Army is a mission central to the story of the game, and involves taking a sentient AI you'd discovered in an earlier mission, Felicity, and putting her consciousness into a prototype of a new Hyperion robot. This robot is able to construct more robots, hence the title of the mission, and is crucial to being able to take down the forces aiming to destroy Elpis, as Jack is extremely short on the firepower it would take to defeat them.

However, the conflict here comes from the fact that by uploading Felicity's consciousness into the robot, there's no small chance that it would effectively remove her sentience and kill her. It would be possible to copy Felicity's consciousness into the robot, but this would take a few days at the least. Much of the mission is spent listening to Felicity get increasingly desperate about the prospect as Jack considers what she's saying, but ultimately, the tagline for the mission becomes "if only Elpis had more time," as Jack apologizes, but decides that it's a sacrifice that has to be made. Felicity then becomes an (extremely difficult) boss for the player to fight as she says pretty horrifying things like "I can feel myself dying."

This mission is the one where you truly see how Jack thinks and values things, and though this set of values does become more warped and obscured by his insanity as the series progresses, this essentially acts as a baseline, in my opinion. Jack does seem to be regretful that Felicity will likely die in the process, but to him, there's no other choice. If they want to save Elpis, Felicity has to essentially sacrifice herself for the greater good. It's this conflict that Jack weighs constantly, though it's not always obvious because of his own delusions. His larger, horrific actions all come down to this choice of what has to be done to bring about the world that he thinks is best. It's ruthlessly logical and practical even though it may seem more random at a glance.

What kind of education has the character had?
Unknown! All we know about Jack's education is that his coding was self-taught. He probably went to a pretty standard school up to the equivalent of high-school. After that, I'd headcanon that he took the route of getting recruited to Hyperion becaue of his skill with programming and going to college through them. They seem like the kind of evil corporation to fund someone's education and own you forever. Too bad it was a bad idea in this case.

Though I'll also note that this is subject to change, since I've seen implications about Jack's education that I'm not sure are fanon or come from a tidbit of canon, so.

What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Jack's primary area of expertise is, perhaps surprisingly considering his personality, anything programming and engineering. Jack is a brilliant programmer, and he's been coding since he was a kid. Though we don't know what kinds of projects he worked on in particular, he definitely has a high level of skill with hacking too, since he mentions hacking into Hyperion servers for the purposes of blackmailing his superiors. He's also fairly skilled with engineering (of guns especially), so he's going to have a pretty high understanding of concepts related to mechanical engineering.

Besides this, Jack is also quite skilled with matters of running a business, though not quite as much as the former. His programming/engineering are his real talents that he's worked hard on and for most of his life, but he does have a fairly natural talent for being a CEO. He definitely has drive and vision that seems to have made Hyperion extremely successful very quickly, so for all his bravado, he actually has stuff to back it up. Go figure.

As for what he'd like to learn more about, why, of course it's going to be anything to do with Vaults. Mo power, mo problems money heroism.

RELATIONSHIPS
Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Bad. Jack never knew his father, and while he did know his mother, it doesn't seem to have been for very long before Jack was handed off to his mother's mother, and by how he briefly explains, it seems like he didn't see her again after that. Jack is fairly bitter towards his mother for leaving him with his grandmother, which we'll get more into in a few questions, but he wouldn't think of his parents otherwise. They're pretty much a non-entity in his life.

Does the character have any siblings? What is their relationship like?
If he does, he doesn't know about them!

Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
The only other blood relative of Jack's we know of is his grandmother, and to say that Jack dislikes her is a pretty massive understatement. Jack's grandmother was very violently abusive, considering the tool you find that was used to discipline Jack, and also fairly psychopathic herself, considering a comment in The Pre-Sequel about how his grandmother drowned his cat when he didn't make his bed.

Still, though it's probably mostly just a gameplay mechanic, the fact that Jack sends a group of bandits to kill his grandmother and sends the player character to essentially skip out on his bill for paying them does show something interesting, in my opinion. Considering Jack generally doesn't hesitate to harm or kill people who've wronged him very personally, this distance implies to me at least that he's also still afraid of his grandmother too. Jack apparently takes the time to build her the house at the very least, yet he won't come kill her himself, even when he rather proudly boasts about punching his mother. It's an interesting nuance, and I think his violent, abusive relationship with his grandmother shaped a lot more of his worldview than he'd like to admit.

Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Nope! For the reasons stated above, Jack doesn't exactly value family very highly, save for the one he's made for himself.

Who is the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Considering Jack's trust issues, he doesn't have very many friends at all, but his best friend is also his girlfriend, Nisha Kadam. Nisha is one of the (potential) people that Jack hires to help him out in The Pre-Sequel, and Nisha is... a pretty awful person in her own right. However, this made her well-suited to deal with Jack after he lost his grip on his sanity, since his moral corruption and decline wasn't something that bothered her. On the contrary, when we see that progression in the game, Nisha is the character that gets excited about it and often encourages Jack on his new, awful behavior.

As for Jack himself, considering Nisha did stick with him and they're still dating by the time Borderlands 2 rolls around, the fact that Nisha stayed with him is something that Jack really values, since trust is something he doesn't exactly give out freely. Nisha is his girlfriend, but also his best friend because Jack trusts her more than anyone else. They also have a lot in common, like, you know, a healthy (?) appreciation of murder.

Does he have other close friends?
"Close" is probably stretching it, but otherwise, the only other real candidates would be Wilhelm, another potential person that Jack hired in The Pre-Sequel (who he ends up poisoning as bait for the player character in 2), or if you have a Tales canonpoint, Rhys (who he ends up trying to make his meat puppet). So. To say that Jack has issues playing well with others is something of an understatement. He doesn't really have any close friends, since Jack is inherently too vicious and paranoid to actually have a healthy friendship with anyone.

Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
This is an odd contradiction, because both are true here. Jack is very charismatic, and in a circle of friends, he would probably be the asshole friend, but still friend. He's the sort of person who has a very entertaining personality and fits into the category of charming asshole... To a point. Jack is very good at maintaining shallow, surface level relationships with people, but when it comes to actual friendship, this is where he tips into insanity.

After all, there are certain elements of healthy friendship that simply aren't possible with Jack. For example, disagreeing with him. Challenging or disagreeing with him is something that Jack takes very, very personally, and he'll take it to the point of perceiving it as betrayal. And Jack will absolutely murder people viciously for betrayal. So. There's a slight problem there.

In short, Jack is the sort of guy who you would think has an endless social circle with his extroverted, animated personality, but in truth, he has very, very few friends, and being friends with Jack is also extremely dangerous.

Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family, but a very specific version of family. AKA basically just his daughter at this point, though I'd guess he valued his wife quite a lot when she was alive. His own family was pretty terrible, but I think Jack found a lot of value and happiness in creating what he felt like was a normal, happy one.

Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Jack has been married twice, both to unnamed women. His first wife was Angel's mother, and Jack became a widower when she was killed.

However, her death is something that's not at all clear, since we have two different stories about what happened to her, one from a dubiously canon source, and the other from Jack, the rather unreliable narrator in this case. Still, in both cases, her death seems to have centered around Angel. In one version of the story, Jack killed his wife, possibly for objecting to Jack's idea about employing Angel's Siren abilities. In the one Jack tells, Angel killed her mother, and he locked Angel up to protect her and to protect others. We never find out which one is true, and there's a fair amount of evidence to support both, so I also keep this intentionally vague. One possible interpretation is also just an error in writing, since the idea Angel killed her mother, and Jack killed the second wife is also a valid one with some clarification that comes in Tales.

Even so, we know that Jack did get remarried after his first wife, though we don't know anything at all about the second wife, just that it happened. They're no longer together, and considering Jack, this could be "divorce" by murder, or it could be an actual divorce. He's definitely not married in timeline of the series.

Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
He is, at least by the time Borderlands 2 rolls around. After The Pre-Sequel, Jack starts dating Nisha, and they have a relationship of at least a few years by the time Borderlands 2 takes place. If they both hadn't died, they would probably have been long-term dating without any prospect of marriage, since marriage wouldn't be something that Nisha would be interested in.

Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Jack's first crush was probably some girl he knew as a kid because he's a hopeless romantic but, his latest crush is absolutely his longtime girlfriend Nisha. Jack's crushes never go away, even when he's dating someone.

What does he look for in a romantic partner?
A lot more than you'd think, actually.

Jack's romantic relationships are actually quite important to him, as I figure he's the kind of guy that's not happy unless he's dating someone based on his rather long string of serious relationships. The thing that Jack looks for above all else really just amounts to support--He wants someone that'll stay by his side and support him through thick and thin, though that does make him pretty damn clingy. In fact, his clinginess is what Mad Moxxi cites as the reason she broke up with him. He looks for emotional support, since he actually needs that a lot more than even he likes to admit.

Even so, just based on Nisha and Moxxi, he does seem to like people that are a little emotionally distant, so it's probably not something he likes returned... He's a pretty selfish lover, tbh

What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey Scale?
No matter what fandom might tell you, Jack is primarily heterosexual and incidentally homosexual. Jack is mostly attracted to women, as we can see by his history of marriage and girlfriends, he definitely can be attracted to men based on some offhand comments to Tim and Rhys mostly. However, his incidental gay does have a common factor that's worth noting: himself. As in, Jack is attracted to men that remind him of himself.
