HANDSOME JACK | Pandora as you knew it—the chaos, the bandits—That time has passed. If ya let it, this could be an era of order... Of peace! Just turn yourselves in, and I promise. Your deaths'll be quick. |
BIOGRAPHY Ultimately, Jack is the hero that has lost his way. Jack wants the best for the world, and with his optimism, drive, and intelligence, he certainly has the ability to make strides to his larger than life goals. Jack wants the world of tomorrow to be better than the world of today because he wants it to be a world where his daughter can live better than he did. Or at least, that's what he'd tell you. Jack's morals have always been grey, and through hardship, betrayals, and a unhealthy dose of alien artifacts, all of his ambition has become twisted over the years. Jack may have had it in him to be a hero once, but now, he's a monster that will do anything it takes to bring about the utopia that he dreams of. Whether it's locking up his daughter to use her powers for his own gain or razing an entire planet because he doesn't think the people that live on it are worth much of anything, Handsome Jack is a name to be feared. After all, it's because of those good, heroic qualities that Jack's goals aren't so lofty. Because he believes he can attain them, he will. AU SUMMARY Born to a family in longtime service to the Company, John "Jack" Marten was just another in line to work for the seven generations the Company asked in exchange for eventual freedom. Despite a rough childhood, Jack enthusiastically threw himself into working for the Company because of his skill and interest in technology. For most of his adult life, he worked in research and development ranging from programming to tech engineering. Jack married and had a daughter with his wife, and for a while, even with the hard work, Jack was happy. He had dreams of proving his worth to the Company so that his daughter, who would be the one to benefit from the Accord, would have a happy life once she was able to claim what his family had worked hard for. However, when his wife was killed in a random act of violence on Westerley, Jack's idyllic life came to an end. He was first possessed by needing to take revenge for his wife's death, and immediately requested to work at the Prisoner Intake Facility so that when the culprit of the murder was brought into the facility, Jack was able to kill them himself, though no one knows this but his daughter. Working in the Facility turned out to be more lucrative than Jack expected, and so his priorities shifted. Realizing the Company would never honor the Accord when the people he was seeing every day were the people who could also claim it, he instead decided to change his focus to the top. If he wanted his daughter to have a happier life, he would have to change the Company. As his ambition focused upward, one of his superiors in the Facility noticed this and seeing that Jack had a bit more means to accomplish this than most, took matters into his own hands. His boss placed a less-than-legitimate bounty on Jack's head, and though Jack escaped with his life, he escaped with a severe burn on his face and the sting of betrayal, since the people that had come after him were people that he considered friends. Taking on an unsettling mask and the name Handsome Jack, Jack began to spiral further into his more extreme means to ascend to the heights that he felt he needed in the Company. Jack always plays by the letter of the law, since he knows where he can push and where he can't, but the prisoners that come to Jack's sector of the Facility tend to get a little different treatment than elsewhere. Minor offenders tend to face hard work or even experimentation through the Company, but the worst of offenders seem to disappear without a trace. The Company turns a blind eye to what Jack does, because even if it's not exactly ethical, the numbers he produces are without question. His sector is both the most productive and the most orderly. Full AU here. AU INTEGRATION The following are parts of Jack's AU that you can freely assume an established character would know: - Jack's job and loyalty to the CompanyThe following are parts that your average person wouldn't know, but a well-connected character (like an infobroker) may: - Jack is widowed, and the general circumstances around his wife's murder and the fate of the murdererThe following are parts that you should ask about first because they're sensitive topics for Jack (but I'm OOCly open to doing plots on!): - Jack has a daughter that he's carefully hiding/concealing the fact that she exists GENERAL NOTES - Jack is a bad dude who does bad things! As such, I'm super open to antagonistic CR, so if you ever want to plot things out, please don't hesitate to talk it out with me.
